Health screening

Choosing a health screening package

Start with the question you want the screening to address, then check the markers, limits and results pathway before booking.

Be clear about your goal

Your goal might be preventive awareness, a baseline for future comparison, monitoring markers already discussed with your clinician or checking a specific group of markers. If you have symptoms or need a diagnosis, speak to your GP or another appropriate clinician rather than relying on a screening package.

Read what is actually included

Look at the complete marker list, preparation requirements, service measurements, laboratory route, expected turnaround and who receives the results. More tests are not automatically more useful. A focused package may be more appropriate than unrelated testing.

Understand the difference from NHS screening

National NHS screening programmes invite eligible groups for specific evidence based screening. A private health package is not a replacement for an NHS invitation. Continue to attend NHS screening when invited.

Plan the results pathway

Know who will provide the result, what explanation is included and where you will take an abnormal or concerning finding. Orchis IV discusses factual results and signposts; diagnosis and treatment remain with the appropriate clinician.
